New Project

Post by vetbridge » Fri Feb 02, 2007 11:46 am

Well, I am not much of a carpenter, but I've tried. A corner of my living room has always been kinda strange because of the odd angles created by a chimney. It took a few evenings, but I've built a cage to fit the corner. There is still a good bit left to do (perches, doors, plants, tray, etc) but that should be completed tonight. The two panels closest to the viewer are plexiglass, by the way.

I'm not sure what the problem is with the photo, I just copied and pasted the link to view it. The way you have it posted it should have shown up in your post though. I'm thinking it must be a problem with photobucket??

It looks like you did a good job constructing your flight cage. You didn't ask for suggestions but I'm going to offer a few anyway.

First, I think you would get more enjoyment from your birds if you raised the flight to eye level. Birds are less flighty if they are at least on the same level as you. Higher is even better as they prefer to look down on us. Thus, I would build a base for the cage, which could be used for storage as well.

Second, I have plexi on the lower half of my flight cage and have had a few birds crash into it. Fortunately they can't get up enough speed to do much damage. But it is something to keep in mind when you place your birds inside the first time. I have window clings stuck to the plexi as a visual reminder and have not had any problems since doing so.

Thanks for the ideas! I have considered having a base under the cage, but I want to try without first. The seating in the room is all very low- futons and such. With the cage the way it is, it is perfect for seated viewing.

My gf has offered to ride with me to Exotic Finch Loft in Ohio. It is a 5 - 6 hour drive, but I think it will be worth it. There should be a pair of Goulds in the cage this weekend!

You have to post the IMG Code or the URL with IMG tags... not the URL as seen by the browser.

Here you go :)

Thanks for the image help! I should have figured that out myself, I mean photobucket explains it right on their site.

We made a trip to the Exotic Finch Loft in Miamisburg, Ohio (6 hour trip each way!). Ended up taking home two goulds and two shaft tails. They are all doing well. Here are a few pics:

Can anyone tell me what my gouldians are (colorwise). I think I know, but wanna be sure. Also, any hints on sexing shafttails? The one is singing (and was sold as a cock). The other looks pretty much identical, but is not singing.

You appear to have a red headed white breasted normal hen and a red headed [purple breasted] dilute (single factor yellow body) cock.

And they are very happy. :) In addition, the breeder says he is split for blue.
