We don't want to discourage members from using avian vets. Just because you had a bad experience does not mean they are all bad or incompetent. Avian vets can do the tests to diagnose illnesses, imperative when you are dealing with something like polyoma virus or the like.

What works for one person may not work for another at all. Our birds, our setups, our programs are all different.

So much for education.... I saved my birds myself after doing my own research

That makes me a better vet than the so called educated vets

Maybe I should open my own hospital. ..I could call it sunlight is king.. =D>

Tail feathers I think you're onto something with the black seed
Thank you.

Sorry you had such bad luck with your avian vets... can't say the same here! We have like 6 well known ones right in our area. One of which I use for both the dogs and birds she is from Australia and very knowledgeable and she works side by side with our daughter in the vet office. When in doubt about anything I email or ask her. Very helpful and spot on.

I realize it is not always the case with everyone.... Florida seems to have a larger population of avian vets than most states.

It is not the black seed I have issue with it is the recommendation of raw honey since it can potentially cause further issue or worse.

There are also vet that I have been to that badly misdiagnosed our dog, finally found one that was spot on and we were able to medicate shrink the tumor (Cushings Disease which is an easy diagnosis with the proper blood test) and it bought our boy 3 more years. Our daughter started working for her 8 yrs ago and is now getting ready to start her avian vet courses in college. They have since hired an avian and exotic vet (she is from Australia as mentioned earlier). I trust all the avian vets in our area...some even have published papers on avian health that we refer to often and can be found on the internet. I have any questions they are happy to take a phone call or answer an email.

Sally is right though vet have the ability to do many tests and provide the proper medicines to help your bird/animal.
