Ceramic Infrared Heat Emitter vs Other Heaters

Post by HeyItsRaymond » Thu Jan 15, 2015 6:19 am

I need to figure out a good heating solution for my birds. I was thinking of getting a Ceramic Infrared Heat Emitter and placing in my dome light. It says it will increase the temperature of an enclosed terrarium by 10-15 degrees. How well does it work on an open cage?

I was also considering a "Snuggle Up Bird Warmer". Has anyone used one of these?

I have never used Snuggle Up Bird Warmer. However, I use ceramic heaters and they work well. I use 150W heater....it is good enough for an open cage.

Same here. Most of my birds are in a sunroom. In winter it gets chilly. I use the floor ceramic heaters .

I haven't used the bird warmer, but I do use the ceramic heat emitters and love them. I use them in those round hooded reflector lamps (I like the ones with ceramic base, safer). I hang them on the outside of the cage near the end of one perch or on top of the cage, again aimed at one end of one perch. I've never measured to see how much it increased the temperature, but they work for me.

Question, how do you know what level of warmth to set it at or does it do it automatically?

I posted about this earlier (includes photos):

I use a ceramic heat lamp in my sunroom under a "dome" lamp fixture. The heat does dissipate but it still provides a warm spot, right underneath. But if you could incorporate into more of a shelter box of some sort, it could be more effective.

I have ceramic heat lamp on all the time, all winter. I also have other heat sources in my sunroom but I let the overall temps go down to 50'F when it's really cold outside (more often it's around 60'F in there).

We use the ceramic bulbs here. Just right. We also have a little ceramic heater on the floor. The Gouldians seem to like like the cozy warm.
