I'm not getting out of birds but I am cutting back on the amount of varieties and amount I will keep.
I'm going to sell off most of my gouldians and get another pair of the Chinese Nightingales. I will keep one canary and my mule for song. Maybe keep one pair of gouldians, I can't part with my blue boy.
It will make it a lot easier to have someone come in and take care of the birds in the summer when we go away for a couple weeks and next winter if we go somewhere warm. So slowly I'm going to sell, give, trade birds and cages.
The second pair of Nightingales are going to cost me 8 young gouldians in trade. But at least I will be variety specific and concentrate on breeding them back from extinction in the bird keeping world.

Good luck with your Nightingale's, Jerry. I am also thinking about cutting back on the variety and amount of finches I keep. I hope this coming year brings many healthy, happy babies for you

Re: Cutting back on birds!!
I sold off six Gouldians last night for $100 a piece.
They were all at different stages of colouring up.
Another eight are going next Friday.
All I will have is my "blue Boy' unless I get him a yellow hen soon?
I'm only going to keep a couple of pairs and only blue and yellows, which I prefer to have.
Two pairs of Nightingales and a few canaries for song.
