Hello friendly Finchers.

Did I forget to mention my new pair of Red Faced Parrot Finches?
I picked them up yesterday .

It's a really long story, but the female had been in my house once before quite a few months ago. When I picked up my Alfie, I'd also picked up a little hen for someone else. This person desperately wanted her for his boy, but shortly there after, traded both of them to the pet shop for other birds.

They were in the pet shop for a long time and later bought by a lady who recently had a change of heart and put them up for sale. So the little hen came back to me, bringing with her a mate. Now how funny is that? Talk about what goes around comes around. The other funny turn to the story is, that this is the same lady from whom I'd bought my good Mama Sharra. Small world, or what?

My new little couple, is in a bit of rough shape at present, but I'm sure that with good care and a good diet, they will bounce back in no time. Already taking endless baths, munching greens like there Is no tomorrow , and sucking up mealworms like spaghetti.

Apparantly they had a couple of clutches of eggs at the lady's house, but would not sit tight, so she removed the eggs. Possibly because the cage was sitting on the floor, with two young kids running around the house. I'll give them a good rest, then once in good shape, I'll set them up with a nest and see what happens.

Yes, they deffinitely need some building up. My poor girl appears to have been plucked around the neck. My new biy, appears a bit older and us somewhat patchy in the plumage department.

They are such lovely birds when in good shape and can look so bedraggled when not. I noticed that these two are quite active at night. LOL. Other flight mates are giving them dirty looks.

The staying up all night thing with the parrotfinches, it's crazy. I tell mine all the time to go to bed, that they are making me tired. They don't listen.

It made me chuckle, 'cause Alfie and Amy, go to bed with the rest, but these two are night owls. They were flitting about, and he was trilling away happily. And there was Luciano (Canary) all poofed up into his sleeping position on his favorite perch trying to sleep.

Trrriiillllllll...

Triiiilllllllllllllll !!!
Luciano glares at Newbie, and fluffs himself up in disgust.

I really think, that if it wasn't dark, he would have gone after him.

YEah it must be a parrot thing. Mine love to talk in their sleep too.
If my night light is on they will even go outside on the edge of the lights radius and eat. Little piggies - they like their midnight snack.

They are little piggies, aren't they. Seem to want to spend all of their waking hours (as many as they are) eating. At least a lot of what they eat is veggies, so hopefully won't get as fat as piggies (or we won't need a ham for Easter )

Life is strange at times.
I'm glad they ended up with me as well. I thnk they will shape up nicely in a few weeks time.

Do they like to breed in private, or are they ok in a community flight? Good to know ahead of time.
