Most active finch species?

Post by mattz » Fri Dec 12, 2008 7:14 pm

Hi all,

Everytime I see finches in the pet stores, the Zebras are always active, while other species are calm, usually just sitting on their perch.

Does this observation hold up with your experiences? Are Zebras the only ones that visit Starbucks, or what?

There is another active thread now discussing which Finches are the calmest. It may be useful to other newbies such as myself to see how you would rank various species in terms of activity.

Thanks in advance!

In my aviary the parrot finches are the most active. They are constantly moving. First up and last down each day. Next would be the shaftails.

I don't have zebras anymore.

parrot finches are the most hyper-active birds that I have had. even make zebras look sleepy
Addicted to Finches, yes I do admit it.
I pray they never find a cure.

Can you list the different species of finches from most to least active for us? Thanks!

Again, this is a difficult question to answer, as it depends on whether the birds are in cages or aviaries. Of the species I have, all the waxbills are very active, then the Parrot finches, then Owls, Stars, Societies, Gouldians. My Parrot finches are in a cage, I'm sure they would be much more active in an aviary.
3 Purple Grenadiers, 1 Goldbreast + 1 cat.
