Male finches pass away

Post by nfrog » Sat Jan 24, 2015 4:31 pm

I've had Zebra Finches for 2 years now. before the boys pass everything is normal I keep 2 pairs in an 8' X 3' X 3' aviary w/ extra nests fresh water and finch food w/ additional millet sprigs. My room is kept around 65 degrees. Conflicts seem normal, girls lay eggs but no kids yet and I've gotten boys from different sources. They look fine but I don't know how to discern problems posthumously.
I now have 2 girls and 1 boy

Hello.

I'm sorry to hear about your Zebra boys.

So what exactly happens? They are fine one day, and gone the next? No sign of illness, no fluffing up, sitting on bottom of cage, dirty vents, not eating???

How are the other three birds doing?
How is the diet?
Hard boiled eggs.
Good quality Finch seed.
Greens, vegetables, fruits.
Cuttle bone, crushed egg shells, fortified grit.
Multi vitamines.

A few more details, might be helpful.

Hi,
Thanks for the response.
I use a fortified seed mix, cuttle bone and fresh water daily. I will try greens and fruits again but last try they ignored what I put in there cage, I will research what might work better.
The birds fly around all day in and out of nests, perches bathing eating they come near me when I approach the cage. yesterday all was fine since this is the 3rd finch I've lost I assess daily and I did not see any conflict or lethargy and he looks normal but he and the remaining guy are 8 months old.
