Who's used S76 on scaly mites feet?
My poor canary has scaly feet due to mites. Being in Canada with next to nothing available to us .....
I was at least able to order S76. It arrived today but the instructions on the printed page doesn't seem right!
It just says to administer the S76 in drinking water!!! That cannot be it.
How did you guys use the S76 for scaly feet treatment?

Re: Who's used S76 on scaly mites feet?
Thank you Debbie!
This is strange, on the link it says: Apply 1 day each week for 4-6weeks. same for drinking water.
Now looking better at the instructions sent to me its says: Cut tassles, saying to directly apply s76 each day for 1 week and in the water for 2 days. Then to apply once a week until no signs.
Which is the right one, am a little confused. Also when is best time to clean cage after using the s76?

Re: Who's used S76 on scaly mites feet?
Not sure where you got the S76 but I personally would never cut the tassles.
The area that talks about scaly face and leg mites says to apply the undiluted S76 with a Q-tip or cotton bud one day each week for 6-8 weeks directly to the affected skin. The same day each week you should administer the S76 to the drinking water.

Re: Who's used S76 on scaly mites feet?
Debbie, I got it from same place as the link you sent me.
how the instructions on the printed page that came with my order is very different. But same place to.
I tried calling them and there never someone who can answer the phone. It doesn't make sense one direction I once a week for X amount of week and then the other one is once a day, 7 days first week then once a week. I'd never be able to cut the tassels!

That is very strange indeed. I'm very surprised Laraine isn't answering your calls also
Are you sure it's from ladygouldian and not ladygouldianfinch?
I found a very similar set of instructions on the ladygouldianfinch site which is Myra and Joanne
This condition is also called Tassle Foot in Canaries and other passerines. This mite is not highly contagious but is the result of immune suppression most often related to a nutritional imbalance or genetic predisposition. The treatment involves cutting excess tassles with a clipper as well as applying medication to areas involved using a cotton Q-tip plus S76 in the drinking water.
Treatment with S76
Initial treatment is S76 painted on daily for 7 days and in the drinking water for 2 days. Apply undiluted S76 directly to the affected skin using a Q-tip each day for one week and S76 in drinking water for 2 days. Repeat S76 drinking water treatment and one application topically each week until all signs of mite have disappeared (recovery varies from 2-8 weeks depending upon the severity of infection.) Usual cure time is 3-4 weeks with mild infestations. Keep away from eyes & nostrils.

Yikes!!! I agree with Debbie...No Tassle Cutting!!! The feet will recover over time. Just be sure to only provide the 1 water source that contains the S76 each week, to ensure the birds are getting their meds. I am done with treatment now for Scaley Leg and my infected bird's feet are looking better and better

Re: Who's used S76 on scaly mites feet?
Ok, did a bit of searching and here are the directions from Dr Rob Marshall, the person who created S76
https://ladygouldian.com/ask-dr-rob/medication?page=1
Answer:
Hello Jeanne, This is the recommended treatment using S76 for scaley-leg mites. Paint the undiluted S76 directly on the feet, legs or face using a cotton bud. Keep away from the eyes and mouth. Repeat daily for 1 week, then weekly until the sores are healed. Also one day each week administer S76 in the drinking water for 6 weeks, then as a routine to prevent recurrence, administer in the water for one day each month during the Summer and at the beginning of each season. Scaley leg and face is related to immuno suppression, so I always recommend my Health Programme to start during treatment. This mite is not contagious, but rather opportunistic. If this treatment is followed for the scaley mite, air-sac mites will also be killed. All the Best, Rob
Best of luck

Re: Who's used S76 on scaly mites feet?
Debbie, all this time I thought those 2 websites were the same!! I ordered from ladygouldianfinch.com I never get anyone when I call there. I'll go check the other website you sent me link.
This is great you found this last info re s76 instructions! Thank you so so much!
Ginene ... I also said yikes when I read to trim the tassels. For me it looks likes flesh, Itd be too scared to even touch or pull on it.
OK, well I'm glad this is cleared up ..... OH BTW, should there be a cage clean up, if so, ideally when in the treatment process is it good to clean?

Sandra - You're not alone in your confusion! S76 is tricky since it can be applied/given in different ways.
Agreed with the others; I wouldn't cut anything. I think that refers to the real severe cases where there are literally chunks hanging off the feet.
For the cage, I would do a full cleaning at the beginning of treatment and again at the end.
Make sure you pay special attention to the perches and nest if he has one. I would put them into bleach water to soak for a little bit. (That will soften any dried-on poop too, making it easy to wipe off.)

Is this scaly mite feet?
My canary started treatements yesterday for scaly mites. I wasn't going to do my 2 finches.... but overnight had a change of mind and so my 2 Gouldians started treatment today.
I never seen this before until I actually took the male in my hands .... is this scaly mites or something else?

Re: Is this scaly mite feet?
That yellow discoloration on the foot is similar to how my BCCB's feet looked when my vet diagnosed her with Scaley Leg...I thought you were treating them for Scaley Leg and that's why the baby couldn't be put back with them? Is that poop on his leg? A vet visit would confirm for sure if it is or isn't Scaley Leg. How is his beak?
