Is Owl Finch an American synonym for the Double Barred finch?

Thanks delray. I'd never heard them called that, and I've never kept them personally, but I do see them in the wild here occasionally. Very cute birds, and very fast, always on the move!

Ginene, Imma have to go with normal. Fawn, I think, would be a bit lighter than dark brown, more like this

GlennO they are one of the more flighty species. I guess even in the wild!

Crystal would have to say for sure, but I will give my take on it. I had to zoom way in (150%) to look closely at the CB. I would say normal Owl, Red-throated Parrot finch, Blue-breasted Cordon Bleu, and normal Java finch. At the bottom of the page is a Red-headed Purple-breasted Green-backed Lady Gouldian and a normal male Zebra finch.

I always thought that the CB was a Blue-capped, but after Ginene mentioned Blue-breasted, I took a closer look. Sure enough, the blue does not extend over the whole top of the head, and the beak is not fuschia-colored but more gray, so it has to be a BBCB. Good catch, Ginene!

And after zooming in, I realized that the whole forum is easier to see, maybe not at 150%, but I am going to try 125% for a while.
