Quail in cage

I have a cage 36L x 31W x 64H. I have four pairs of finches inside. I thinking of placing a pair of Quails inside...Do you think I have room inside for the Quails...

Buttons? I used to keep buttons in the bottom of my flight cages and never had a problem. It's good that it's a tall cage - buttons jump when they're startled.

I've never had Button Quail, but since they pretty much stay on the bottom, and that is a tall cage, I would think it would work. Welcome to the forum! I have four button quail in my finch cages. One pair in each cage. They get along fine with the finch and your cage should be plenty big. They are skittish and do jump surprisingly high when startled. I actually trimmed their wings because I was concerned about them hurting themselves. Although tonight my one female was sitting on a high perch just like one of the finches! They are cute, but smellier than I expected, more frightened, and actually make more of a mess than help to clean up the bottom of the cage.

I'm dying for some button quail. They're just precious.
And yes, they definitely do "pop" when startled/excited.

I've heard of people keeping them in larger aquariums too. But I imagine that's less than ideal since the ventilation isn't so good in those.

I agree with the others; I think you've got a large enough space for them. My only worry would be about them living on a grate/bars. So I might see if you can remove the grate or cover a portion so they're not on a grate 24-7.
If you can't remove the grate, I might get a shallow plastic tray that you could fill with some Timothy hay or similar. My finches love timothy hay too. But it can be messy. You could even use something like Carefresh or corn cobs or one of the bird-friendly reptile substrates. Just a different surface for them so they don't hurt their feet. Plus, they'll really enjoy pecking around for seeds and other treats. Quail will spend all day foraging if the opportunity arises!

just caution with quail if you are breeding, any tossed babies from nest above might be picked off by quail.
