The mistake is obvious, on second look @ the scale. So here again is the weight : A little less than an ounce.
(My wife, who's the primary user of the scale, wouldn't have made such a mistake
)
The measurements were made on the larger bird.

The normal from all the websites I've been to seem to be 5 1/2 inches and anywhere from 15 - 30 grams.
Your large goulds appears to have a very large breast though it may just be the picture.
Just out of curiosity could you measure and weigh the smaller one.
Interesting thread.

"The average gouldian weight is 15-25 grams and about a 5 1/2 inch body"
"The normal from all the websites I've been to seem to be 5 1/2 inches and anywhere from 15 - 30 grams"
There is a discrepancy of 5 gms between the first and second sentence. Anyway, NRJ wouldn't be interested in normal-sized birds, I guess.

Re: Large Size Gouldians like the Show type Zebras???
I don't understand, why people always want to breed 'bigger'. Bigger, isn't always better.
Consider some of the dog breeds, that have been bred bigger and bigger, creating more health problems then you would want to count.
I'm not saying, that if you have the choice between a normal sized bird and a puny one, that you should choose the puny one. I'm just saying, that we shouldn't always try to breed bigger and bigger, because in the long run, this might not be to the species advantage.

I always thought up to 25g but after you posted the weight I did a google search and several came up with up to 30g. They seem to be getting heavier but are still are in the 5 1/2 inch range."The average gouldian weight is 15-25 grams and about a 5 1/2 inch body"

Thank Everyone for the Information,BB wrote: "The average gouldian weight is 15-25 grams and about a 5 1/2 inch body"

BB it is not that i prefer one over the other, i just was interested to see the size difference, Even in my birds i can see slight differences in size and feather quality,
There is a person called Lievens in Holland here is his website www.natuurgould.be, who has been selectively breeding in natural conditions in cold temperature to develop more robust and healthy birds, which are bigger in size and have longer feathers.
Anyway it is and interesting topic.
thanks
