I got my first parakeet as a ten-year-old, when I set out to catch her when I found her flying around outside. After Mango, I got budgies and cockatiels and eventually got an amazon and conures. It's been hookbills for 95% of the time.
I'm in high school now and I don't have enough time for even the sweet 14-year-old Patagonian conure that I have now (who I'm looking to rehome).
I got my first finches last August from the Finch Farm, and they were a pair of European Goldfinches. One died shortly after arriving, but I still have the remaining finch singing and kicking! I'm looking to stop keeping hook bills and just keep finches, as I still want to keep birds but don't have the time or money to care for parrots. As soon as Dakota the patagonian conure has found a new home, I'll be bringing in more goldfinches and possibly canaries into my home.
