Purple breast vs lilac breast

Post by KarenB » Sat Mar 28, 2015 4:33 pm

Can someone post a side-by-side comparison of female gouldians both with purple and lilac breasts so I can see the difference? I know a female purple breasted bird will be lighter purple, and to me that IS lilac. I just want to see an actual lilac female, because I'm wondering if my females are lilac or just light purple. TIA

The female I'm most curious about is in the thread below. She is Bird A

Bird A is a Purple Breast
I used to have a WB to LB to PB comparison picture, it may still be on my other computer. When I get back to NJ Monday I see if I can find it.
LB hens are a very faint pink color usually

Oh, debbie276, thanks for that! It was driving me bats.

Here she is in a front-on view. I think the photo makes the colors darker than in reality, but I'm sure you're right.

When her breast feathers first started coming in, I thought she was going to be white-breasted, and then when more came in it was obvious they were not white but very very pale purple.

So you think she IS lilac, or you think she's purple? I'm confused now (which is not hard to do, by the way).

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. She is lighter in color on the breast than her momma. Wish I could get them side by side.

Ok, just to be clear, the LB hens breast is a very faint pink. Many times at first breeders think it's a WB but then realize that is a very light pink. If it's just a lighter "hen" purple color then maybe it's just a different tint of PB and will color up darker next molt.
Now that I've confused you totally I'll look even harder for that picture tomorrow

I found this link. Looking closer, I do think my hen is a light purple breast. She is still molting out, so she may darken when the rest of the breast feathers come in. She is still very pale, though.

Good link, that LB hen is a perfect example of what I was talking about.
Do let us know what she ends up being when all done molting. :)
