Canaries of a feather flocking together...

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Whoever said canaries are not social birds has never met my canaries.

They sure look like a sociable bunch :D
My canaries tend to hang out with each other in the mixed aviary. Once in a while, they even hang out with some gouldians. I find canaries to be pretty friendly.

Canaries are very sociable. My dad used to let his canaries hang out together during the day. But, they need their own space! Every night they would each go back to their own cage...about 15 canaries each finding their way back to the same cage. And during the breeding season they get a little hormonal. But I think canaries are happier with their own. When I had red factor and non red, the Reds would hang out together. I think because most reds are get separated from the other colors so they can get color fed so they are used to seeing others of that color.

Great pictures of your happy flock.

They sure are pretty Dylan. Hopefully I'll be able to send you some eggs soon and see some grandbabies of my own flying free in your bird room.

Hi there,

I read that canaries are descended from Siskins - and these are quite social birds. Also, I guess if you have enough room, food etc they will generally get on

Kind Regards
