RIP Priscilla

Post by MiaCarter » Thu May 07, 2015 8:21 pm

Priscilla has never been right since she came down with Twirling last year. She's always been vaguely off ever since, despite vet visits and medications. Nothing has fixed her back to her prior vitality.

Today, I peeked into the bird room and saw two birds sitting in the food bowl.

I've never seen that so I went in to investigate. I just had a feeling.

My sweet Priscilla passed away, cuddled up beside her friend Molly Sue who proceeded to bite me with surprising vigor when I went to remove her. (He's one of my tame ones, so he has no qualms with standing up to me.)

It was so sad. He was protecting his friend. Everyone was so protective and loving with Priscilla. She lived with 3 boys, but they were all so sweet to her. They were her protectors, yet they didn't try to mate with her or overwhelm her as often happens when you have multiple boys and one girl. They knew she was unwell and they cared for her, preening her and fussing over her.
She rarely left her cage during free fly and one of the boys would always stay with her.
That cage was always so subdued and calm. Like and old people home atmosphere.

I just put everyone in their cages for the night. I moved two girls in with the 3 boys who lived in that cage - Juliette (who'd been sleeping in a single cage since she'd been beaten up by two other hens in her prior home) and Juliette's bio daughter, Cecily.

I popped everyone in and they were all so happy with each other, beeping and honking.
The mood in that cage changed in an instant from calm old people home to noisy brothel! LOL
They all seem happy with their new accommodations.

But I'm going to miss my sweet girl Priscilla.
She had the most precious, gentle personality. The sweetest little girl.

Fly free little one. We love you always. Rest in peace, my lovely girl.

I'm sorry about Priscilla, Mia. But now she will have no more twirling or medications or subdued and sick days. Now her days are filled with happiness and joy and freedom. O:-)

Mia - So sorry to hear about Priscilla. I know you have spent a lot of time helping her recuperate. Lovely to hear how the other birds helped her too. It's amazing to watch personalities of birds housed together.
