Gouldians and parrot finches

Post by Marv » Fri May 22, 2015 2:01 am

I just got a pair of gouldians, placed with my daughters pair, they get along just fine.

But my cage with the parrot finches are bigger, so was wondering if they can live together or not. I hear some say they get along fine, while others say either the parrot finches stresses the gouldians or that its the other way around. The gouldians are ready to breed, but not sure if i dare to move them to the parrot finch cage and set up some nests, as i dont want trouble with them. Otherwise i will wait till i can get another cage for the gouldians.

I use to have a pair of red throated parrot finches in a flight with Gould's and they got along just fine and still able to raise babies

They should get along fine but having them breeding in same cage could result in the possibility of hybrids, cock parrot finches in breeding mode get very amorous.

It's probably best to leave them to their own because they do hybridise and may cause disturbance as previously mentioned.

I raise both species, and while they are equally peaceable, the jittery parrotfinches may unsettle the placid Gouldians enough to interfere with nesting. If raising babies is your goal, Gouldians do best by themselves.
The PF's are not so sensitive in that way.

When not breeding, Gouldians and Parrot Finches, get along well. I have both species in a large flight without any problems whatsoever.

If however you wish the Gouldians to breed successfully, I would not put them together.

Gouldians, breed best as couples, each pair in their own flight.
