No More Petco Cages

Post by MiaCarter » Thu May 28, 2015 7:57 am

OMG.

I just went to buy a couple 30x18x18 flight cages from Petco and much to my horror, it would appear that they no longer carry it!!

It's no longer listed on their website.
The link (http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?SKU=1282018) goes to a "we're sorry/not found" page. I looked through the cages and sure enough, it's nowhere to be found.

With the "repeat delivery" option, I paid approx. $36 each, which was a great price for the size of the cage.

Now what?!? Gaaaaah.

I guess we're not using cages anymore.

They had one left at the Petco where I live but they want $54. I decided to wait till the birdmart in July to see if I can get them cheaper.

O this is bad news...even amazon says it's unavailable. Hmmm, so is there a good replacement for a decent price?

I just emailed petco to see what the story is and ask them to bring it back. Maybe others who like the cage should as well...worth a shot anyway.

I do know that there a couple different manufacturers of the cage. One type has the heart shaped scroll on the front and the other has more of an 'approximate' scroll that curls under at each end.

This company brings in a lot of stuff and their ad says brand new shipment. You'll need to scroll down a bit but it is on the right. Stand with four cages.

Try Lin Enterprises, Inc., wholesale pets & pet supplies, Fl. exclusive YML pet products. They are in Tampa, Fl. and if you email them, they will let you know the distributors in your area. The email: vlinenterprises@yahoo.com 813-431-8799. I got mine at the Orlando show from a distributor for $35. They didn't have any at the last show though.

This place has good prices, but you have to buy a case at a time. Not so good for those who just need one cage, but more for those who have a pretty good collection. I've ordered from them before and been happy with my shipments.

That's a good idea to email Petco to complain.

I've currently got 6 of those white Petco cages.
I'm so bummed because I had 9 but I sold 3 (new in box) to a friend about 2 weeks ago. She offered me $50/each and I'd only paid $36 so it seemed like a good idea.
Now I regret it!!!

I went to get 3 more and that's when I discovered they're no longer available.

I need to figure out something SOON because I've got 2 babies in one nest. There's 4 egg babies with 2 zeb youngsters in another cage that's 26x16x16 I think? (though despite being cramped conditions, they seem totally happy. Plus they get free fly. But the foster mom Sylvia is on 4 zebra eggs, so they need to get out of there soon - within a week.)

And on top of that, I've got 6 gouldians in 2 interconnected cages, but the parents won't breed with all those kids running around. (And they're too wiley for just one 30x18x18 cage, so I'd need at least 1 new one for them.)

So in short, I need at least 3 new cages. (The exact number that I gave away! Gah! No good deed goes unpunished)

I even looked at Petco and Petsmart. Their cheapest cage was around $60. It was a little bigger than the 30x18x18 (taller), but it was one of those with a top that looked like a roof, so you couldn't stack them. So that won't work.

I think the Country Feathers link from Sally looks pretty good. I'll go for them, I think. How's their shipping? Is it insanely expensive? So hard to find someone with good prices AND good shipping!

@wildbird I'll definitely call and investigate with LinEnterprises!

@Derk's link to Alibaba looks good too, except I know Alibaba is more for shops. I've found some good deals on there, but they wanted me to buy like 75 cages! (And wouldn't ship a smaller amount even for a higher price.) Are there some suppliers/manufacturers on there who will ship just a few?

Oh, another idea I considered was making them.

I'll look up some plans, unless someone has some good ones to share?

I think I'd still need to buy seed catch trays for the bottom, though.

Won't look as pretty, but it would be inexpensive and I could make them to suit whatever size I need. And I could make them consistent, which is important to me for stacking and interconnecting them.

Sally NICE! I'm sold on them then!

I noticed they have 30x18x18 cages with dividers for $7 more than the variety without dividers. So I'll definitely be getting those for the versatility.

You never know when you may need to separate or subdivide. Right now, I only have 2 with dividers and they're small cages to start, so I can't imagine splitting them in half. So it will be nice to have some larger cages that I can split if need be.

Alibaba was just to let you know the cages were still coming into the country and available to stores. The 30 x 18's are found just about everywhere, so it is hard to believe someone would not pick up the manufacturing. Perhaps there was just a delay in shipping, or for some reason your usual store decided to change cage types. Regardless, I am glad you found a source.

Thanks for that link. I was looking at a different site that also sold by the case of 4, but they do not supply free shipping.
