Bengelese finch
hi can any body advise me on this 2 month old benegelese finch I brought from the pet shop last Thursday. He keeps making screeching sounds and little chirps. I have older birds in with him and they sing and dance lovely. Will he stop making this noise as he gets older. Thanx

He may not be fully weaned yet, so give him fresh soft eggfood and millet spray as he can't eat seeds yet. Congrats on your new b

Thanx for the info but do you think he is making this noise because he is young and will he grow out off it and begin to sing.

Clareece welcome to the finchforum! There is lots of great readings @ the www.finchinfo.com website located at your left screen where you can learn more about society finches! If you place your location in your prifile, it may help towards locale-specific questions.

When the bird is making the noise, how is it behaving? Mouth agape, wings spread head tilted up towards the other birds? That's begging behavior and indicates the chick wasn't fully weaned. Yes he will stop eventually (if it learns to eat on its own and survives). Be sure to provide soft foods like eggfood, and millet. You can check out the diet and nutrition section for lots of softfood recipes to try out.

Welcome to the forum! It does sound like he may not be fully weaned. You've gotten some good advice already to offer him egg food, soft food, and spray millet, all of which are easier for him to eat. Good luck with it, and please keep us posted.

Welcome to the forum. One of my tiels was acting the same way and suspected he was crying to be fed. I changed his seed mix and doubled the portion and he stopped screaming. He was just hungry that's all. I don't know if you can do this with finches but with tiels you can buy a formula mix to spoon feed and slowly add the seeds in until fully weened.

Re: Bengelese finch
Deffinitely need to know his behavior while he is "screeching" like this, also ask the pet store if he did this while there? Just a little more info, and one of us will totaly be able to help you out with him, but if he is hungry, my heart goes out to the poor little guy!! But if you can post a picture of his posture/positioning when he screams, or describe it we can help you better.
But the short answer? Yes this should stop. But remember birds usually learn to sing by the mail they are raised around signing, so if he was raised in the pet store near some screeching parakeets....eh... he might think that IS HIS song!!! But hopefully for your sake not!!! LOL, being around the other societies at a young age (he should still be learning his song) if the scream is his song, they will teach him a prettier one!!! Good luck, and welcome to the forum!!!
