My New Indoor "Aviary"

Wow! What a GREAT indor Aviary. That is wonderful - I know the birds will be very happy in that. It will be like living in a mansion.

A few details...
102" wide x 36" deep x 84" high
2x2 frame
2- 36" and 1- 30" screen door frames for the front
1- 4' shop light overhead
1/2"x1/2" wire mesh
All the "dark" wood areas are just 1/8" pressed board
2-seed feeders
1 bath(hanging on the chain)
2 drinking/water areas
1 shelf in the middle for special foods(egg,live,greens,etc)
All put together with drywall screws and some 2" finnish nails

Right now there are 3 pair of zebras(1 normal,1 fawn and 1 florida fancy) and a pair of diamond doves in there...I'd like to add some javas and/or shafttails in the near future(maybe saffrons,too?).

Really wonderful aviary! You have used the panel-form aviary idea, using the screen doors, and it looks great. Is that a niche that was already built-in to the wall, or did you do some drywall work too?

need to remove the dowel perches though and put in some branches

Great setup. I agree..... go trim some nice branches and get rid of those dowel rods. That would be so much better for the birds and give your aviary a more natural look.

Thanks for the nice comments all...
Sally, the niche was already there...so no drywall work done.
As for the dowel perches...I live in the city so its tough to get branches till I can get to my parents place in the country.
The dowles were just cheap and easy to do...lol.
I did use 4 different sizes from 1/4" to 5/8"...so there is a variety of sizes.
Any more constructive criticism would be appreciated!!!
(This IS the first time I've built one of these...lol)

That is how we all learn. My husband built me a perch tree for mine and I put all dowel on it. Then the poor thing had to do it all over for me.

I am forever changing things. That's okay... it keeps the birds interested.
I call in enrichment for birds.

It really looks good like they said a few minor tweaks and it will be perficte[bambo is good for perches] branches from mom&dad will be best, wish I had it
