Hello,
I am new to finches and just wanted to ask about one of my two new zebra finches.
Can anyone tell me the mutation and sex?
No orange or black cheeks. but does have a bit of the black line across the chest.
Once we know the sex we can name them

Looking forward for time with these two cuties!
Thanks

I am no good at sexing Zebra finches, but others are and should be able to help you. I did want to welcome you to the forum! There's lots of good reading at
www.finchinfo.com, where you will find many articles on finch care and especially the Zebra finch. If you put your general location in your profile, it makes it easier to answer locale-specific questions later on.

Welcome to the Forum. I think you will enjoy it here. We have many members here who have Zebra Finches, or who started out with Zebras, so you should be able to find common ground.
Your Zebra boy, is a 'boy', and a very handsome boy. Congratulations on your new bird babies.

The beak colour, is the first indicator. Males have red beaks, while females tend to be more orange in colour.
Next you will note the black chest markings, and the white spots against the chestnut colouration on the flanks.
You will also probably notice all too soon, that this bird sings.

The mutation appears to be "Grizzle" or Pied

the bird looks like it has pied in it, it removes the color in the bird, it is a male
