Indoor Aviary Room August 2015

Post by Sheather » Sun Aug 30, 2015 7:10 pm

Right now housing 7 budgerigars, a ringneck dove, 3 canaries, a Gouldian hen, nine society finches, a pair of zebras, two spice finches and their one male offspring, two orange-cheeked waxbills, and a pair of Java sparrows. We have three societies, two diamond doves, and a pair of cut-throats in addition to a tame pet budgerigar housed elsewhere in the home right now. The bird room as it currently stands is very efficient and minimalist for easy cleaning in the heat of summer and there are no nests. I no longer encourage breeding in the colony situation.

That room is GORGEOUS!! The birds look so happy and there is so much space!
I love the color you chose for the walls.

The cut-throats, diamond doves, and one society pair are set up in breeding cages in a sunny back bedroom. The societies, a pied male bred in the aviary last autumn and a white crested hen recently obtained, are a newly set-up pair and are working their nest but don't seem very bonded yet and the diamond doves are sitting on eggs set to hatch this week, with luck. The doves are sharing their flight with a male society finch recovering from a minor injury temporarily inhibiting his flight ability (he was plucked by the cut-throat hen before they were isolated).

I agree the color of the walls really make the the birds colors pop out!! Oh what a fabulous place for your birds to feel they can fly freely!

I have a room I can convert, but my cat is in hospice  and that is his room until he lets us know its "time".

He eats birdies...

The doves are just enchanting. The are next on my list of bird to have since they are so gentle, would be wonderful with my societies.

Looking good as always.
You have moved a bunch of things around, or removed them altogether, haven't you?

Good luck with upcoming babies.

Sheather nice job Dylan! Have you considered just keeping the cagesinside the aviary? That's what I do.... Can't wait to finish painting and redecorating mine, the paint is a bright ugly yellow. Also it's in the betterment so only one small window :(

Oh no, I've found out cages in the aviary just results in very, very dirty tops and sides of the cages. : P

Sheather yeah ive definitely noticed that too so I try not to put them under perches, I only one for the birds to go in and out of as they please, I think some find security in a cage. Btw what color is that on the walls? I'd like to do something around there

DanteD716 Not sure - it came with the house. It's somewhere on the orange-coral spectrum. I do like it.

Lovely bird room! Is that carpeting on the floor? How do you ever clean that?

Vacuuming and steam cleaning, it's outdoor carpet so it doesn't hold moisture readily.
