Zebras , will nest in your shoe, if you happen to leave it in their flight, lol. Zebras, will nest in anything really. They are not picky that way like many other species. My worry over a small Canary nest, is that there really isn't enough room in there, and the danger oh hatchlings falling out, is much greater in a small relatively shallow nest.

I won't have time to get to the pet store today so I went through some of my craft stuff and found this..I will zip tie it in the corner of the cage on both sides with a perch below for support. It should be deep enough don't you think?

I had another egg in the food dish this morning

They have 4 eggs now but show no interest in setting on them..Should I give them a few days and then toss the eggs if they don't sit?

Goodmorning :-)

No tossing . There might be more eggs on the way. When was the last egg laid?

Kelly

If that's the case, then there could very well be more eggs on the way. Usually they start sitting tight once the last egg in the clutch is laid.

So the sad news =(( ..They pulled out all the nesting material and pushed the eggs( still only the 4) to one side of the basket and they were on the other. They showed no interest in incubating the clutch of eggs. :(

I thought I would try giving the eggs to my new kids. Mrs.Hudson (grey zebra) looked at them after I put them in her nest and then a few seconds later had settled herself on the eggs and hasn't gotten off them..I hope they're still good. [-o<

Wow, that's great that Mrs. Hudson sat on them. Here's hoping they are still viable and that she continues with her fostering. It might not be a bad idea to lightly mark these eggs, since Mrs. Hudson may be stimulated to add some of her own eggs to the clutch.

You can probably still do it, just catch her off the nest some times. I have used a permanent marker that leaves a mark when just lightly touching the egg. Of course, if you leave any of Mrs. Hudson's eggs in the nest, you won't be able to tell the babies apart anyway, once they hatch (unless the parents are totally different).
