They are still upset this morning & didn't sleep in their nest overnight like normal. I was so careful when I removed the eggs & put a glove on & everything so as not to taint it or leave human smells. We've given them a bit more nesting material, so hopefully over the day without anyone being home, they will relax & carry on as normal xxx

Sometimes first time clutches are just a trial run for these little guys.

They will glare at you for a while though, lol.
Hopefully the next time around they will give you some beautiful babies.

Good luck next time, I have not raised any finches, wouldn't be able to part with the babies, then I would be overrun. Oh, I have a blue faced parrot finch male, can't find a female.

Thanks so much. We have everything crossed that we won't have to go through this too many times before they get it right. At the moment Mr Parrot is constantly chasing Mrs Parrot, but she doesn't want a bar of it yet, so I'd say she's not quite ready, which is better for her to have more time before laying again. Less taxing on her wee system hopefully

Well ... it's been a couple of weeks since clutch no. 1 were a disaster - since then, Bear somehow & I have no idea how, managed to rip an entire line of red chest feathers out. Poor wee sausage ... I don't know if he managed to clock himself on a branch chasing Teddy or if Teddy got sick of being chased & attacked him. Anyhoooo he's looking a bit worse for wear.

Apart from that, they have been busy refurbishing their nest & clever Teddy has laid three eggs so far. I say so far because she's not sitting yet, so I'm expecting at least one more egg before she starts mummy duties.

Fingers crossed for a better outcome for clutch no. 2. Watch this space

Congratulations on the new egg babies. Looking at the picture you posted, I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is fluff shadows on the two on the right, or numerous cracks (?). I hope it's just little shadows.

They are little bits of fluff thankfully ... I think she must be going for a full clutch this time around, still not sitting properly & I could probably put money that there will be another egg in there. Seemingly they can go up to 6? Good grief! I hope they are fertilised this time How on earth does the first egg survive when they only lay one per day and don't sit completely until they've finished laying?

He looked really sore, so I'm pretty positive he whacked into something & its such a straight line of missing feathers, I don't think he'd be clever enough to pull them out like that *lol*.

Eggs don't start to really develope untill incubation begins, so they are ok for now. However once incubation commences, the embryos will die, if the parents stay off the eggs for more than 15-30 minutes.

I hope your boy will be ok. Is it an open wound, or just feathers missing.
