I always wash everything by swishing it around in a bowl of cold water, leave it to sit for a bit, then rinse under cold running water.

I think we've all become too hung up on a lot of gimmicks and whatnot that are just money making schemes for the people that come up with them. We have no way of knowing how many farmers are honest, and how many inspectors are honest etc.

I buy ordinary fruits and veggies, and I wash them, and I hope for the best.

best way to get hard skinned veggies and fruits clean is rinse it well and rub it dry with a paper towel... the rubbing helps to remove the wax coating on fruits like apples.

Mexico uses sewage to irrigate their crops. Enough said?

We lived in post-war Germany for four years when I was a child. The farmers used sewage as fertilizer, which they pulled around in wagons called 'honey wagons'. All the American mothers were given chlorine tablets and told to wash all produce thoroughly. My mother had fits, because I would raid the nearby farmer's field, pull up white icicle radishes, wipe them clean on my clothes, and eat them on the spot. I survived, obviously. Don't think I would try that today.

I just heared about the cucumber issue over the news here. Apparently, three people in the states have died, and many more are still quite ill, with many hospitalized.
