Fertile?? pics

Post by Alley » Tue Oct 06, 2015 10:30 pm

Hello,
So they started laying on their eggs on October 1st. I checked them for the first time today(October 5th) which I am guessing they are not fertile?

Were they sitting consistently.... eggs once laid are viable for up to 7 days then they need to be incubated.... let them sit for a few more days then check again... if they started laying on the 1st... it is only the 6th... give them time. Don't toss them yet.

let them sit for about a week more then check again.

Thank you for your help.
Yes they have been sitting on the constantly. Mostly the hen, but when she comes out to eat, drink and stretch her wings then Dad is right in there until she comes back. Then at night they are both in the nest.

If they weren't sitting tight you wouldn't see anything yet. They usually don't start to sit till at least 4 eggs are laid, and then it takes about 5 days of sitting tight before you will see veining.
Like Cindy said let them sit about a week before you candle them again.
What type of finch are these from?

good luck

Oh sorry they are zebra finch eggs.
The last egg was laid October 1st and that is when the hen started to lay on them constantly.
Thanks
