Hello Starry Eyed Finch Lovers.

As some of you may recall, I recently lost my darling little Skyler (Star Finch) boy.
Sunny, my little Star girl was hit hard by his loss as well, searching for him in the seed cup, where he liked to sit, and all around the flight, looking at me, her small orange face a question mark.

As chance would have it, I found myself at the Pet Shop to ask a fish question a couple of days ago. As chance would also have it, I wandered into the Bird section by accident, and lo and behold-- Orange headed Stars--.

As luck would have it, I had my points to use ( $35.00 off my next purchase) plus a 10% off coupon.....

ENTER SAM !

Sam, is a very handsome young male Star Finch, sporting a beautiful orange head.
When Sam was introduced to the flight, Sunny went.... . Sam, went... , sidled up to Sunny, and jumped her. Sunny, went... Eeek . Sam, went... Sunny went ... e-eek...

Long story short....
What sort of a nest do Star Finches prefer ???

Sorry you lost Skylar. I read most of your post about him losing his vision but thought he was doing okay. Sam is a handsome chap! I have two male Stars and haven't had any luck finding mates for them. My males are great nest builders adding lots of nesting material to some of my larger bamboo finch nest. Those two guys have even set on, hatched and fostered a couple Gouldian babies from eggs that were abandoned. Wish you the best with the new "couple"!

Yes, sadly we lost Skyler. He was doing really well, and then one morning he was gone, still looking very cozy and comfortable in his little seed cup. He must have slipped away in his sleep.

Sam, has a very different personality. He is much more active, and appears to be a lot more interested in starting a family, yesterday .

I have to say (you know me) I'm a little surprised you don't quarantine new birds before you put them in with the others.

I know, smack me with the spray millet and smack me hard.

Sometimes I quarantine, and sometimes I don't. I'm bad for that. I sort of go by Instinct, which I can't really explain. It's the feel of the bird, the smell, the sound, and the looks. I know , I know, it makes me sound .

And to all others, DO AS I SAY!!! Don't do as I do.....
QUARANTINE YOUR NEW BIRDS !!!

My apologies to all, for being a bad example, and I'm not saying this in a joking way.


PS. Yes, I do make out well in my Pet Shop , too well at times, as family and friends would attest to......

Super cute, although I'm sorry a loss had to happen first. My decent pet store is a long way away...but that's good for the budget, I guess.

I'm very happy that my Pet Shop, is close to home. I think if it was far, I'd go into withdrawal, or have to make a monthly pilgrimage to it.

I usually go for a Pet Shop visit at least once every couple of weeks, but sometimes more often. I just love to see what's new, what's on sale, what I can't live without

Since the two stars I bought this summer turned out to be males, I am pretty sure you are likely to end up with babes before I. I am looking forward to seeing what nests you choose and what the chicks look like. Is your pet shop called "Pet Shop?" I have been so busy this summer, I never did make it out to visit my brother, but when I do, I am going to check out all the bird stores! And points...you get points for dollars spent and discount coupons?! The only pet store giving out points this way went belly up a couple years ago.

I was just re-looking at your pictures. Such pretty little owls! How old are they? I have not spoken to anyone out this way that has an owl for more than a year. So I stopped trying after I lost my two pair.

That's quite the collection with your stars. Will you move them to another cage? Or is that an aviary? What is its size?

The pet shop I am referring to, is called : Pisces Pet Emporium. I would highly recommend it, and I think you can check it on line too.

If there is a particular bird (s) that they don't have when you're there, they will order the bird in for you (if it is at all available).

If you become a member of the points program, you get so many points per amount spent (double points on Wednesdays). When you reach a thousand points, you get $35.00 free in store shopping.

They also have a customer appreciation day once a year, with all sorts of vendors coming in with loads of samples, contests and freebies, along with face painting for the kids, and free hot dog lunch and snacks.

Re. my little Owls, I don't know how old they are (not even sure if their a true pair, but one is a male for certain). As for breeding the Stars, I'm in no rush. I just enjoy watching them for now, and how their budding relationship is coming along.
