Bird mart

Post by kyle » Mon Oct 19, 2015 5:00 pm

Hi all. This coming Sunday will be the first bird mart where I Will be selling 7 young Gouldians. They have all finished their adult molt. I was thinking if I hung onto them and sold them at the bird Mart I would find people that have a real love of finches. It would be nice to know they have the same care after I had sold them. On the other side of things I'm hoping to find a YH WB YB female or a RH WB BB. I haven't seen them available in my area. If I get lucky I'll post pics next week! :D

This is exciting!

I love bird shows/sales ♡♡♡

I hope you don't end up buying more birds than you sell, lol.

Elana. Yes very excited. Ever since my first pair of gouldian chicks hatched I thought of the local bird Mart as the best place to sell them. I'm hoping I enjoy the experience. This year I have a much better idea of just how how much room it takes to breed and rear finches. After this bird Mart I hope to be breeding two pairs that way one can be a back up surrogate for the other if need be. Anything more than that I just don't have the space for. Which is probably a good thing. Lol. two large flight cages and three large breeding cages should do the trick. :D

I think bird marts are a great place to sell, as the customers are generally bird lovers to start with--who else would spend a perfectly good weekend looking at birds/cages/supplies like it is Christmas?

I remember years ago... my grandfather going through all his budgies and selecting the ones that he wanted to sell... and then going with him to bird marts in Melbourne to either sell or trade for birds that would improve his breeding stock.

I used to love walking around looking at all the birds.

Good luck with your birds. I agree with Sally, that would be the best place to sell/trade birds. I LOVE bird marts!!! It feels like Christmas every time I attend one. I ALWAYS come home with a "gift" !!!

Hi all. So yesterday I had the bird mart. Apparently it wasn't advertised early enough so turnout wasn't as usual. I did sell three of the six youngsters I brought. I enjoyed the event and had an opportunity to talk to local breeders. I managed to find a YH WB YB female. I had posted pictures of another YH female I was planning to pair with my YH male and it was pointed out to me the female had a red tipped beak and was genetically a redhead. Now my new girl is definitely a YH YTB. Of course no guarantees it's a girl but I think so.

Elana, slwatson. Thank you she is lovely. I'm not sure if she is female because of her WB makes it hard to tell. I'm going by her lighter belly. Any confirmation would be appreciated. :D

I sure hope that she is a 'SHE'.
Between her and your Mr Gorgeous, you should have some absolutely lovely babies.

I have the worst time with identifying sexes of most finches, especially gouldians!
