Re: Air Sac Mites or Respiratory Infection?
cindy I found a vet and they will take us for 4pm today!!! There was one in Mattapoisett but it's really far and they wouldn't be able to take us in time. I found one a city over! I looked at that one before but Google listed it as permanently closed even though its not! So happy!! She wasn't available but my mom begged her to make space for us
I hope we figure out what's wrong. Thank you so much for all of the help.

That is good... please inform them that when the bird first became symptomatic with the other issues you were under the impression there was no local avian vets available... your help came from an online bird site/person with a clinical background I referred to and please let him know what meds the bird was on, you may want to bring that with you.
Let him know that the bird has improved... bring pictures of before and after droppings, especially the large splat that is gritty to show him.
Hopefully they will be able to get your bird healthy.

Great to hear you have found an avian vet, hopefully she can diagnose your bird properly, she will be able to take fecal samples. As cindy said, be sure to let her know EVERY medication you have given to this bird, including the dosage and length of treatment, as that may affect the treatment she wants to give.

cindy This is Cooper, not Meepin
Her poops weren't those photos. Her poops are the tiny ones that had some yellow in it. Her poops are a lot better now, I was treating her so Meepin wouldn't spread it to her.
One thing that caught me was Aspergillosis.. I know it involves mold and we can't rule that out.. the symptoms list seizures and voice change. What if that episode she had before was a seizure? Her voice has changed a teeny bit but I thought she was just strained from yelling at meepin to stop singing to her. I don't know.. I really hope it's not that. Let's see what the vet has to say. They don't have a hospital there but maybe they'll still be able to run tests.

Have you ever had mold in your home? Mold spores take air movement to move them about, they can land anywhere, water, food, once ingested or inhaled it can cause gastric and breathing issues.
Will you bring both bird in or just the one? They can do fecals on them which is what was needed in the beginning to give a definite diagnosis. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

cindy No vomiting, it's like she's choking on something. I have a video of the noise she's making. She's on her swing right now. Didn't catch her coughing something up but at least theres the noise ive been hearing, its louder now... I have a longer video but its taking to darn long to upload so heres another one:

Re: Air Sac Mites or Respiratory Infection?
You mentioned she is in a nest... I also noticed the towel above the cage has strings hanging down, I realize she is in the cage alone but single hens can go into egg laying mode with any type of material of nesting and a nest.... could she possibly be egg bound, panting and heavy breathing can occur with that as well. It can be painful.
Has she passed droppings today?

cindy Shes been pooping fine. We got out of the vet. No help. She said shes too young and small to give baytril to and she doesnt know whats wrong. Could be a seed stuck up her nose since lafebers granules are small, or it could be serious. I dont know what to do now.

Re: Air Sac Mites or Respiratory Infection?
cindy Yes, she said she specializes in birds. She didn't even do a culture or anything. Told me that Cooper was too small and young to give baytril to, didn't run tests, just forwarded me to an avian vet across the state. She said that she could have a seed stuck somewhere, or something more serious. I mentioned mites, respiratory infections, I showed her the medication and her poop, the videos, everything. She didn't even take more than 15 minutes to look at her. Said there's nothing she can do and sent me on my way.
Cooper is fluffed at the corner of her cage and making that noise. I have no idea what to do for her this is so frustrating.
