5th Time lucky

Post by MariusStegmann » Sat Nov 28, 2015 10:51 am

I have a pair shafttails, that failed to raise chicks about 4 times. This time things looks to have gone further than the previous times. I have been hearing a racket coming from that nest for the last 2 weeks. Hopefully they will be successful in raising the chicks. I have been too scared to go near the nest and check. From experience I know that shafttail babies leave their nests like bats from hell if they get a scare long before they are due to leave. The problem is you can't put them back into the nest, they just go out again.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you and your Shaftail family. If there has been a racket the last two weeks, then they should be just about ready to pop out I would guess \:D/

Thank you Jenny and Elana. They might just prove me wrong, I almost made history and put their eggs under the Societies. I have never used my Societies for fostering.

There is only one shaft-tail baby, and it actually changed nests. It is surely noisy for one bird. It still has not fledged yet.

lovezebs The new nest is directly below the old nest and there are branches in front of both nests. I put a finger into the old nest and felt a dead dried up chick inside. I think it moved because of the dead chick.

The little shyster fledged today. Hopefully the parenting skills of the parents will improve now.

=D> well done. 1 done and many more to go. Once your pair have trialled breeding with this one, maybe they will go on to produce many more.
