Do society finches prefer to sleep and raise their young in nestboxes or in wicker baskets?

I voted for the wicker basket, but only because that is what I've used in the past. If I ever start breeding again I plan on using the nest boxes.

My Societies will use either one - my preference is the plastic nesting box.

I agree with Tammy - mine love ANY kind of nest, but I prefer the plastic. They can be cleaned and reused, and I don't have to worry about them catching a nail in the wicker.

your poll is missing a 3rd option - "Anything vaguely nest shaped"
Seriously, hang up an old shoe and they will nest in that. This goes as much for zebra finches as for societies. They are just super -not- fussy. So it comes down to what *you* prefer. Consider hygine, asthetics, etc. and make your choice based on what you think is best.

hehe. My two male shaft tails have ignored the box and the wicker nest. Their cage had a 3rd site for a nest, so I hung the box that the wicker basket nest came in, with a hole punched in it. They prefer the top of the box. Every day they make a feeble attempt to build a nest on there. Every day it eventually falls off.

My hen shaft tail recently started tearing strips of news paper from the cage floor and putting them in her WATER dish of all places!!
