Gouldian update:

My foster societies are still sitting dutifully on the eggs from my yellow and blue gouldian pair. That pair has also laid four more eggs, so I left them in the nest to see if they'll actually sit. I don't have a good feeling about them though... :(

My other gouldian pair had been sitting on one lone egg, so I candled it today, and it's no good. I pulled it hoping maybe they'll lay more before winter.

You're not going to believe it, because I don't either.....my yellow and blue pair are actually sitting on their eggs  I'm scared to even type it, because I'm afraid I'll jinx them, but I think they've finally figured it out. The male is still trying to sing to the female though, like he wants to breed again, but yesterday, they were both in the nest when I got home. If they hatch those eggs, it will be a Christmas miracle!

Great news, best of luck!
Male gouldians never seem to stop singing whether they want to breed, are teaching young how to sing or are just enjoying singing. :)

I have some exciting news! I think the societies have successfully hatched the gouldian eggs from my blue and yellow pair...the nest is a throw away one, and it's really hard to remove from the cage without completely disturbing everything, so I can't check at this point. But I heard cute little chirps last night and this morning, and it looked like one of society hens was turning around to feed someone!

Great news!!
Most times it takes about 3 days before the chicks are loud enough for you to hear them.

best of luck

Happy to hear that your Socies are living up to their Socie reputation.

How many Gouldi eggs went into the Society's nest?

Hi Elana!

I think I put four or five in the nest....it's been so long, I forgot. They're still doing great with feeding them :D
