Bri & Andy Gouldian Fledglings :)
It looks like this loving couple has made it halfway with the kids. 3 Hatched, 3 fledged. They only feed when noone is watching, so I'm giving them plenty of space.
I'm very impressed. Just a few months ago these two "Noodleheads were trying to build a nest by throwing tommy hay off a perch onto the floor.
Now being this is my first gouldians completely raised by the parents, I am a nervous wreck while the little clumsy fellas crash dive into the fake foliage, or miss the perch and land on each other's head. **chuckle** Let's hope the weaning phase goes as well
In the picture you can see 2 of the 3 in the background behind their mom. Sorry its not a closeup but mom & dad arent in the mood for me hovering around.

Congratulations Babs
.
I always find fledging an exciting time. Finally seeing the kids coming out of the nest on their own (looking like real birds).
And yes, they are clutzy and clumsy, but only for a short while. It's quite amazing how quickly they actually figure it out.
In the picture, it looks like the kids are already starting to show some colour. Were they late fledging?
Congratulations Babs

Elana, I actually lost track of their hatch date. This time I actually forced myself to not peek, to not interfere and just trust them entirely.
I think I tried SO hard to not meddle......I cant even remember when they laid the eggs.
The kids are rather smart, if they dont get mom & dad to feed them on the perch in a timely fashion, they will all pile into the nest and together create a TON of noise.
I think I heard Bri saying under her breath while feeding them "Shut your PIEHOLES! Here...the whole neighborhood can hear you...HERE!!
Then right after she has fed them, they leap out on some branches looking very smug.
All joking aside Bri & Audy are good parents, as long as they follow all the way through the weaning, it looks good so far.
Kids are still sleeping in the nest at night, which is strange.

Hee hee heeh....
Some of the kids will return to the nest to sleep for a while.
If the nest remains in the flight, you will probably find yourself with another clutch in short order
.
Once the parents have another clutch In there, you might find Mom and Dad chasing the young'uns out of the nest (some parents will, some won't).

Bri & Audy are so good, I think I'd welcome one more clutch. These kiddies are not like my other four. They are absolutely terrified of me. When I get near the cage they scamper for the fake foliage.
The giant is here!! The GIANT!! Run for cover!!!

Fee fie fo fouldian, I smell the poop of a baby Gouldian! ! !
It's because they are not at all used to you. You need to sit close to the flight (very close), until they come out of the rafters (and they will). They are curious creatures, and eventually will come over to investigate you, and to see what you're doing

Babs
I've found that the majority of Gouldians, make excellent parents (with the very odd few that give the rest a bad name).
I honestly don't know where the rep of them being so difficult comes from.
