I used the Repti-glo 2.0 fluorescent tubes for a while. Kelvin of 6700 and cri of 98. It was a disaster, feather condition went to pot. Reptile bulbs are for reptiles, and they are not the correct lighting for birds. It is easier to find proper lighting for reptiles than for birds, especially at pet stores. You often have to go online to find proper bulbs, especially fluorescent tubes.

If your looking for warmth I would consider a ceramic heat bulb. It gives of heat but no light so will not disturb their sleep at night.

Good luck

Sorry. I should have noted not to get the uva/uvb (Debbie schooled me on that a while back). Some pet shops have just the red bulb for heat. Thats what I have. And they are STUPID STUPID STUPID expensive.

What I wanna know as young woman of the early 90's .............WHERE ARE THE ALL THE DANG PLAIN 60 WATT RED BULBS??? Have they just disappeared off the planet??? :-W

Cause, back in the day, those red bulbs were downright sexy!

I started a new thread under lighting. This has become a quagmire of an issue. Anyway to answer your question about 60 watt sexy bulbs at least in the USA our government is now regulating light bulb manufacturing and the standard old fashioned bulbs are being weeded out.

What size bulb do you light your cages with in the day time?
Elana bought a pair of Cordon Blues today did you see?

Dont get me started on the political arena or you will have to tape my mouth shut. Politicians push whatever their cousins, sister's husbands, grandkid's businesses are all making $$ from.

More inbreeding going on in that chicken coup than you can imagine. I think here we are safe from the politics. I'd go with what they recommend for bulbs on the forum.

My bulbs are a bit stronger, but after seeing the specs recommended, I will now be shading some of the tops of my flight cages to help with the higher spectrum. I am not going to invest another $150 in another roomful of full spectrum. But I can try and create a more dappled light to offset the power of my bulbs.

**Ill cut and paste part of this for your other thread**

Thanks hoping someone can recommend regular light bulbs. 40 watts seems to be Blues comfort zone he totally quit puffing with this light bulb and light. Guess I should just listen to my birdie. In the pictures the bird on the top of the mirror is Nellie, they almost look identical. Close up I can see Blue's faded red spots and Nell has a sweeter gurlie face to me. I'll get some pics of Sadie and Nell in front of the mirrors too. He pretty much sits right in front of it if the ladies aren't flirting.
