New hatchling

Post by Dramoth » Sun Jan 10, 2016 4:33 am

And I don't know which of the nests it fell out of. It appears to be a couple of days old, has some down on it but it is still pink and cute.

I put it in a nest that has an egg in it, I hope that the parents are still sitting on it and will feed it.

Went out this morning... peeked into the nest and there was a little head popped up looking at me (weaving around slightly). Just before I went into the aviary, the mum bird flew out of the nest.

So it looks like it has either been adopted or I picked the right nest :)

Glad to hear that you helped baby find it's way back home Mark :-).

Amidst all the worry and turmoil, it's nice to be able to help a tiny little creature back to his nest and mum. I'm sure it made you smile.

And unfortunately I went out this morning and it's gone :(

No idea where it went, but I suspect that it might have passed away and got tossed out of the nest by the parents the body was cleaned away by my stepdad when he cleaned the bottom of the aviary last night.

A bit disappointing, but it's been a good year in terms of hatchlings.

Hopefully by this time next year we will have new little kids and they will be more diversified than just Zebs :)

Dramoth So sorry, but you certainly tried. Sometimes it doesn't matter what we do, we lose some.

As Sally said, sometimes we lose some babies... we try our hardest and still lose.

We should have 4 fledglings launching this week... so swings and roundabouts.
