Red heat parrot finch sexing

Post by JoVM » Sat Jan 16, 2016 12:41 pm

Can someone determine the sex of my parrot finches? I put some new nesting material and they start building. None of them make some (trill)sounds and sometimes I see the bigger one chases the thinner one. I have this birds for 2 years now. I had 4 of them but 2 died after a few months.

I don't know anything about Parrot finches, so sorry that I can't help you sexing them. I did notice something in the water tube. Is that algae, or perhaps some of their veggies have gotten in the water tube? Some of my birds are bad about dumping food/seed/whatever in their water tubes, so they get dirty quicker than on some of the other cages.

Welcome to the forum! There's lots of good reading at www.finchinfo.com, where you will find many articles on finch care. If you put your general location in your profile, it makes it easier to answer locale-specific questions later on.

They both appear to be males to me. Though I could of course be wrong because the pics are not all that clear. But the amount of red and the depth of color would sugges males.

As sally has mentioned, your water feeder looks a little soiled maybe?

Thank u Sally. :) U notice everything. Maybe some piece of cumcumber sticking in the tube.

I don't have luck breeding the star finches or parrot finches so far. I also need to refresh my flock. I'm going to breed only parrot finches because I find it more stress to breed more species.
