Pet shop owls

Post by kyle » Fri Jan 22, 2016 10:20 pm

Hello everybody. I went to the petland yesterday in search a female society. It's a little further away so I don't go often. I always like going to Petland because they have all the animals out in front. All the parrots are out on their cages and small hookbills and animals are in large acrilic pens to allow costermers and kids to pet and interact with them. Looking over the finch cages there were two society boys singing away no girls. And then what caught my eye a pair of Owls! The price $395 for the pair! With taxes here in B.C. thats $450 Yikes I went from an emotional hi to an emotional low pretty quick! It wasn't meant to be. But just seeing them in my area gives me hope.
The society male finches I got two weeks ago from Petsmart are very healthy and doing great. I've had no problems with the finches I've bought from them however they keep all their animals behind the glass wall. There's no way to hear if its male or female so sexing them is impossible. Option # 2 I put an add in kijji and there seems to be a shortage of females at the moment which surprised me because usually societys are so easily come by. I've become addicted to kijji finches for sale looking for my girl (and fingers crossed Owls). :D

Good luck.

Owls are really cute, I hope you'll find some. Pet Land is extremely expensive. I was just there a couple of days ago, and there is no way I would pay their prices (eventhough the Blue Capped Cordons were adorable, but $188.00 per bird) is more than I can afford, and more than I'm willing to pay.

Regarding Socies behind glass in Pet Smart. You can usually identify the males when they puff up to sing (you don't have to actually hear them sing to recognize that it's a male). I do believe you can also ask the kids working there to put them in a cage, to get a better look.

Elana that's a great idea. I never thought to ask if they could take them out for a better look. I was reading some of your earlier posts and I can't remember if it was recent or not but you had mentioned to bring a recording of societies so the males will chirp it up. If the employees didn't think I was crazy before this should alleviate any doubt. Lol. :)

LOL..... I have actually sexed some Socies for them at one Pet Smart, and they were grateful :-). They didn't have a clue.
