Medpet Trimethroprim sulfa

Post by Smurf » Tue Feb 09, 2016 11:56 am

I'm hoping someone can advise on this

I had 2 pairs of Gouldians feeding chicks that got Diarrhea, nests were smelly/wet and 1 chick from each died (1 in nest and 1 just after fledging), my main suspicion was e-coli but i didn't have a suitable medication on hand at time. Parents and remaining chicks all recovered without any treatment.

Received Medpet Trimethroprim Sulfa this morning as a backup in case i encounter same problem again and was hoping someone can advise as to whether birds can be treated with it while feeding chicks ?

Yes it safe to use with chicks, very gentle. It can also be mixed with Ronex 12% and Apple cider vinegar.

Thanks Cindy, i wanted to be sure it was safe with chicks in nest now rather than when needed to treat birds, it takes over a week for me
to get medications which is normaly too late in emergencies.
