A familiar whistle, and a gouldian now named Merlin

Post by Babs _Owner » Mon Feb 08, 2016 10:37 pm

Over the weekend I got a few magical surprises.

1. I ended up with a male gouldian that is molting into YH! (yay my favorite!)

2 He has decided to mimic my very lame whistle, right down to the little (fwee-feww), like a soft version of when a guy whistles at a cute girl!

And as the perfect name for a little guy showing me his "magical tricks", he is now named Merlin. Everytime I listen to his song, all I can think of is my dear friend Elana and her precious Merlin. O:-)

Merlin will get a fancy female and his own flight cage. He's staying for life.

This one is for you Elana. As long as you approve of course.

Yes he is Elana. He's Ham's brother (he will chose his mates from one of Brat's offspring)

His whistle reminds me of the echo of your laughter with your sprinkle of saucy ;)

I cant wait to see his babies next year. Thanks for welcoming him your little beloved's name. That means a lot to me. <3

Ill get pictures soon. His molt is slower than Ham's, but he is definitely a YH.

Im adding two breeding pairs next year. Ham and who she chooses and Merlin and who he choses. Will be exciting to see who he picks from Brat's BBs. \:D/

Looking forward to pictures of this cutie.

How do you know he's a yellow head? What color breast feathers?

His breast feathers havent come in yet. He's molting yellow in the lower breast.

He has a yellow tinge to his beak (unlike his brothers who have red coming in) and several orange-yellow feathers on his face. Definitely a YH.

Hoping he will be beautiful when his colors come out!

Thanks Stacie! I was stunned the first time I heard Merlin mimic my whistle in his song. The entire first part of his song is my high-low whistle that I end with a little whistle that sounds like a guy whistling at a girl (cat call). He does it EXACTLY as I do.

Its so much fun to hear it distinctly in his song. Then he finishes it with his own invention. At first Bill didnt believe me when I called him at work and told him, but a few days later Bill was at the cage and Merlin belted out his cat-call. Bill's jaw dropped when he heard it. :-O

I think I might have heard one of Brat's blue males doing across the room today. But I might have been hearing things. Ill pay closer attention to that cages songs over the weekend. That group is very flighty.
