I bought 5 pair lime and splits and the other money was tied up with blues. they have all gone now apart from 2 white breasted blues. they are still kicking and are great great grandmothers...lol

on another note - I have in total 43 young flying

43, and counting =D>

When you say, they are all gone...... do you mean gone to the flight in the great beyond?

That would break my heart.....

I bred what I required from them and then sold the lot and recovered all my money. atm I'd have say 250 birds and $ wise -they owe me nothing :)

I decided to check out today what I have amongst the gouldian breeding aviaries. So its 43 young flying which includes 3 Limes and a Blue. I was virtually wiped out of good colour on the first round with first year birds and just setting and not feeding or singling out what to feed. Plus another 38 young in various nest boxes and good stuff amongst these birds. Plus 47 eggs with birds setting. So its improved a fair bit.
I'd say by the end of April I will have no choice but to stop them breeding or house these young elsewhere as with no holding aviary or breeding room I am fast running out of room. No-where to build either so time is running out.

wildbill Hmm, not a bad problem to have. I am just starting off with gouldians and my gouldians are starting to breed now. Before it was too hot for them to breed and now it seems too cold at night for the chicks to survive if the hens leave them alone at night too early.

might be worth thinking about a heated nest box or another source of heat

wildbill You mean like a reptile heating pad inside the nestbox?

ive tried that idea but underneath the nest box. if you do it you must run it 24/7 to help hold the heat. I am now using a 450watt panel heater and running it overnight on and off via a timer. that way you can remove the possibility of egg bound birds due to cold temps plus hold temps overnight at 14c.

My aviaries are too large and open for a heating panel. I think that I must put up a long narrow aviary just for winter with glass window-frames. I can enclose it completely, and leave an area where I can open the windows that they can sun themselves in natural light during the day.

id checked the nest in the early days and couldn't see a blue so didn't bother after that. nice surprise.

Woo Hoo !!!

Look at these cuties !

Is the one on the right the Limie baby?
Now all you have to do, is make sure the parents continue to feed those sweeties.

Good luck :-BD

looking at the photo -lighter bird on the right. excuse the paint on the holder :) now I know a lime was presnt amongst the 4 young I am trying to catch and ring all 4 before its too late to do so.
ive been rubbing back the car ready to re-paint the front bar. on the big trip I used plasti-dip as a paint protector against chips and had a hard time removing it and it pulled the original white paint off.
so I have a pretty big job ahead repainting the front end of the mazda

Holy Crow, big job indeed. So much for the paint protector, lol. What does one use to protect the paint from the paint protector?

By the way, thanks for the clarification.....
I was beginning to wonder about the ahh errr emmm.... what I thought was sparkly nail polish..... =))
