rapid breathing&feather loss

Post by finchnoob » Fri Mar 11, 2016 12:22 pm

Ever since I got prettypie in January, I had noticed him losing feathers. It started on the back of his head and neck, then near his feet and legs, now it has started on his back. I have bought mite spray and use it as directed just in case it is mites. Could this be molting? My other zebra finch that is also caged with my balding one does seem to preen him daily... should i seperate them? I don't know what to do... #-o

It could be that the other Zebra finch is overpreening him to the point of plucking. You could separate the two and see if that stops the feather loss. That would be my first guess, as you would think mites would affect both birds.
