My count, one 'sausage', and a few morphing uglies :D

true. I wouldn't be surprised if I manage to breed 150 plus. just counting those flying plus 40 young in various nest boxes then toss in several hens in total sitting on 50 plus eggs -its going to be a big number. heres a photo of the young blue
plus its all still good with that most important mutation nest and within 3 days I will know the colour of the young or have a very good idea.

even I got the count wrong - did the figures again and there's about 60 young in the boxes. unfortunately the majority of these would be greenbacks

Well my friend, with these kind of numbers coming up, I think you'd better get out the cheque book, and the old hammer and nails, and start building something like this...

This particular nest is the one I feel could house the goods for the new lime and Blue mutation cross. That is providing it exists as I am only going on these 2 purple looking young which last year ..I lost in total 30 of them. Their parents would not feed them but fed the others.

Photo 1. just after hatching. The birds in question is first off the top reddish purple unit and the one down at the bottom of the photo and partly covered. Any-one care to comment if I have more than 2 Blue?

Photo 2. Well I won't put pressure on any-one so I checked them out today -there are actually 4 blues.
I thought I only had the 2 blues in question so that even surprised me.

Although I have 36 pair of the possibles in actual fact there is a total of 39 pair. Last year and at the very end of the breeding season I gave the eldest daughter 6 young from a couple of the very last Aug/Sept nests. The grandson became interested in birds so I thought I'd give him something to look at.
At that stage she had no-where to place them so I gave her a budgie style breeding box which I tried 4 years back to breed gouldian in -unsuccessfully. I think I bred 19 in total from 8 or 9 pairs..lol
So I gave them 4 green backs and 2 blues but at that stage I didn't think any would go the distance  Although all 6 are possible split to the lime mutation.
Anyway they surprised me and pulled through fine and last week she informed me that one bird was laying in the nest box. Rather than frig about I asked does the grandson use his cubby house. She replied very rarely so I mentioned the idea to do a quick conversion and make it into a temp aviary.
Well that's now been completed and the 6 birds actually ended up being 3 pair of gouldians and are ready to move to the new quarters in a matter of days.

That's a cool little building for a bird house :D
So now it's going to become a multi generational breeding outfit  that's kinda cool. Looks like they have some pretty birds there.

As to the orange slice, yes it is .
Have you never seen my birdie salads? These guys eat better than I do, lol.
