I have 4 new gouldian fledges. 2 Are white with a bit of yellow on the back and the other 2 are a light yellow. All look healthy and strong.

Thx Debbie. Pastels are a lot prettier to me than normal gouldian juveniles.

They are absolutely lovely Marius.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how they will colour up after they molt.

WOW, they sure are pretty, and thanks debbie276 for the Genetics... I really read every post you write on this stuff, until I understand what you are writing (or at least I think i understand) I feel like it will help me...someday. So Just want you to know that it's appreciated by someone and sometimes long winded is easier for me to understand, (lie the YTB i didn't know what that meant, but you explained it so that was pretty cool) Marius, sorry you lost a couple chicks, but the ones you have are simply beautiful.

MariusStegmann Good luck with that. I can recommend a breeder or two if you looking for split blues. You have to be picky and I recommend starting to look now already. They sell quickly. I am sitting with a beautiful split blue hen and no cock bird as they are not ready yet. She has produced 5 beautiful babies already (sneaky hen), but unfortunately with one of my normals.
Least I know she is a reliable mom.

Congrats Marius, they are beautiful! I also like the color of pastels when fledgling, such a soft yellow :)

monotwine What does blue splits go for around here? Am I right that you don't know if the bird is split, even though one of the parents was blue.

Hi Marius,

If one parent has blue body then you have known split blue.
If parents are split to blue then you have possible split blues - only breeding them will indicate if they are true or not as they will produce blue backed babies if really split.

Blue bodied birds go from R1000 - R5000
Known split blues R500 - R800 or more
Possible splits I won't pay more than R300 for.
