My zebra finches get their seed/fruit/veggies fresh 1-2x daily, but what's the rule when it comes to eggshells? I generally leave the same couple pinches of eggshells for them for several days. They don't seem to care how fresh they are, I still catch them eating the shells whether they've been there for one day or many.
Do you just leave the same eggshells in there for a week or more until it becomes time to wash the bowl and replenish? Am I supposed to change it daily like I do everything else they eat?
Thanks!
For feeding, how important is eggshell freshness?

I use egg shell in my mineral mix and don't pay attention to how long it's been offered. I just keep replenishing the dish with more mineral mix every week. My birds don't seem to mind at all. Egg shells last forever basically. I buy the bagged shell pieces from a bird supply shop on line and mine love the shells regardless.

Yeah, egg shell is just calcium. Basically inert. I've left it for months until it was all eaten.
