She is split to pied I think , if wings have white line on the edge then they are split to pied .

Re: pied Factor or Split to BlackBreast
haroun If it were split for black breast the tear mark would be reduced or smaller then normal , yours seems to have a normal one , tail marking for females needs to be hourglass ( sand timer) shape , your females tail seems to have no shape , so I believe it is just split to pied and normal black breast but is not visible fully because of pied.
She is a beauty though
I love split to pied when they have white wing edges , mine is fawn Black breast orangle breast split to pied , she looks like a little mouse when she hops on the bottom of the cage xD
Oh and I think females do not show black bars on their chest if a finch has black bars on its chest it is most probably a male, are you sure it is a female? have you ever heard her sing?

Re: pied Factor or Split to BlackBreast
the hourglass shape in the tail means split to BB, the long white feather with a long black line down the center is full BB
full BB split to bb, hourglass shape.... normal on the left, split to BB in the center and full BB on the right hourglass shape is split to BB for both male and female, same with full BB for females and males....tail feathers are the same for both sexes.

hi StodOne,cindy
thank u very much for clarification, i think she is also split to BC (thin tear and smudge mark in the chest )
I had already read this topic http://www.finchforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=28056
for sure she is not /BB as no hourgalss shape in the tail .
stodOne i'm little more confused you said she is pied and normal BB ?! if it's the caase the tear mark should be abscent ?! or it 's the /BC fatctor acting.
i'll put her son pic asap

Re: pied Factor or Split to BlackBreast
haroun and cindy, thanks for the questions and answers. I've been breeding Zebras for about 30 yrs, but never really paid attention to markings for BB, splits, etc. I went by visible coloring and knowing what went into the parenting. But when I first started, I didn't recall BC, BB, or some other mutations as being available. Learning a lot and paying attention to tear drops, under feathering, etc. now that the markings are being discussed and information more readily available. Any books or sites that will have pictorial examples of what markings to look for?

PS... I've been breeding, but looking for something that is pleasing to me to keep, the others to trade/sell towards seed. Paying more attention to markings cheek and breastedness (guess that's my own term).

Re: pied Factor or Split to BlackBreast
Harmon. Thanks for the link you provided in one of the comments. And Cindy, went to it and thanks for the links to the split pages that brought me to the home site. Would be great on both the artist rendition and the live for male and hen if they were compared to non-split. I see the thin tear drop, but the thick is not as notice le to me as being non-normal. Will need to look for other sources as well, but the links were great. Thanks again. Not that it changes how I breed, but it helps me classify more appropriately. It has been as confusing to me as the genetics for Gouldians and I originally thought that Zebra mutation IDs were fairly cut and dry.
