My BCCB's
I use to have my BCCB pair in the aviary outside but brought them inside 3 days ago to get them in a cage to themselves to help them consentrate more on breeding. I have them in a cage that is 2 feet tall, 18 inches long and 12 inches wide. I was wondering if this was big enough for them to actually breed in. The cage is covered with fake plants on the oustide and inside of the cage. I gave them coco fiber, jute and a mix of some other stuff. I have seen the male and female pick up coco fiber and do the dance on the perch but i have only seen this about 4 time in the 3 days they've been in the cage and i have given them eggfood, vegies, seeds, millet, cuttlebone, and mealworms. I saw the male peek in the entrance of the nest once but has not entered it and they dont seem interested in breeding much. Has anyone had a pair try to breed in a cage this size. If they dont do anything in the next month or 2 i will put them back in the aviary.

CBs need a lot more room to breed. I wouldn't keep them in anything smaller than 30x18x18. You can use a plant to hide the nest, if you are using the hooded wicker nests, but still leave them plenty of flying room--they are active little birds. Also, they usually take quite a while to settle in and feel comfortable with their home. Three days is nothing--they can take a month or several months to trust their surroundings.

Yea, i thought that it might be too small for them but thought id try. I am gonna move them back out into the aviary and probably bring in a pair of goulds. I already have one pair in the same size cage and there sitting on eggs.
