Buying spree

Post by MariusStegmann » Fri Jun 17, 2016 2:15 pm

I bought 2 OC's from Rox yesterday and got 3 Red-ear X OC hybrids from her. Today I bought 2 pairs of Cherry Finches. The one pair is split for fawn. The other pair is a normal cock with a fawn hen. Tomorrow, I am getting two gouldian hens, split for blue with one cock split for blue and 2 cocks that are possibly split for blue. I also bought a pair of Red Throated parrot finches, a seagreen cock and a normal hen.

WOW....that was a spending spree! Can't wait to see picture of all your new birds. What kind of setup do you have for breeding?
Enjoy them.....I know how excited you must be.

I will see if I can snap some pictures of my birds tomorrow. Spreckles and Jen, I have 2 aviaries outside. Both 3 meters long, 1,8 meters wide and 1.8 m high. In the aviary, that the blue split gouldians are in, I have enclosed the sides and part of the front as it is winter now and gets quite cold at night. About 8 Celsius during the night and when raining only about 16 celsius during the day. When the weather clears it gets into the low twenties.

Here are a couple of pic's of the new birds. Cherryfinches, you probably know as plumheads. And I know the one cherryfinch in the 3rd pic is not looking well. I will try and catch him and put him under a light.

cjkrit Thx Christo, I want to see if I can breed some blue gouldians. I put a 100 Watt light inside a tincan, and installed it inside the one aviary and keep it on all the time. It radiates quite a bit of heat. Hopefully the blue splits will stay alive. The previous owner had them in a room where they could go outside via the open window into another aviary where they could get sun. They were pretty well sheltered. My other aviary, I have left open, with no heating. So far I have have not lost any gouldians in that aviary either.

Babs Thx Babs. My little cherry cock has recovered. We had a few days of sunshine and the sun did wonders. My one split blue gouldian cock, looked unwell, I caught him out and I will keep him inside until September.
