Gouldians Egg Color and Health

Hi,

All I have a couple of questions regarding my gouldians. I have a young pair that laid 3 eggs last month all the eggs were infertile (First time pair) i let the pair do their stuff and gave them 2 more eggs from my long tail finches. The pair successfully incubated and hatch only 1 egg but they didn't feed the chick. So i gave the one chick to my society finches.

Anyways now the pair has started laying eggs once again (second egg laid today) but when i check the color of the egg it does not look like a normal healthy egg. It looks more brownish and has more of a MAT finish / powdery looking texture rather than the normal shinning eggs.

Is it normal for some of the gouldians to have eggs in such color or texture. I am not sure if the images reveal the exact description i mentioned. But this is best i can do.

Second question is regarding one of my gouldian male who seems to be active and singing. But i noticed that his breast bone is clearly visible and he is lean when compared to my other gouldians.

I have treating him with ronivet for the past 3 days and noticed that he is picking up egg food, but takes very less amount of seeds.

Is there anything is should give him along with current medicine. I am going to treat them with ronivet for another 3 days (5 days ) in total.The birds dropping seems to be normal though.

The bird is question is the Orange head, Purple breast, Green back - i guess he is split to blue.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

At first glance the eggs look old and not fertile. If the shell is not smooth and shiny I would check that the hen is getting enough calcium and vitamin D. Calcium sources are egg shells, oyster shells and Cuttlebone to name a few. Multiple sourses are best. Vitamin D is in hard boiled eggs and/or a vitamin supplement.

Not sure I see a problem with your YellowHead.PurpleBreast.Green (YH.PB.Green) male in those pictures.
Not sure what you are treating him for.
You can not visually tell a split to Blue bird.

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for the update. I gave them boiled egg and eggs shell everyday. I will try and add some vitamin d supplement to the egg food.

Regarding my orange headed male his droppings seem normal so does the bird and his activities.Not sure if you can see on the picture but when i see him i can see the center breast bone and his weight seems to be lower than normal.Also i noticed that he does not make much noise or singing,but he occasonally does the mating ritual.

I gave him ronivet for 5 days . Now i suspect if this could be bacterial and thinking of giving him something like a worm out gel. But wanted to get some feedback before i do that.

When you feel his breast bone is it sharp? That is the best way to tell if they are underweight.

Yes the breast bone looks sharp.

You should actually feel the breast bone, feathers can be deceiving.
I'd offer hard boiled egg and fatty seeds if all else looks ok to try and add weight.
