Two day old Shaft-tails

Post by Ziggy » Wed Jul 20, 2016 8:59 pm

These guys hatched two days ago, the parents have been very good and there is always one on the nest, but this evening when I was putting in more food, both went down to see, and I snapped a quick pic of the chicks through the top of the cage. I love listening to their little peeps while they are getting fed.

Well, they are 8 days old now, and I can see their eyes are just starting to open.

Congratulations!! Great pictures! I love your soft looking nesting material. My societies and bronze mannikins are quite happy with dried grass and coconut fiber but my canaries prefer dryer lint.

Thanks! They did make a big nest of the material, the back part of it is getting very dirty.
Here are the little guys, two weeks old today :)

Thanks! Today was the first day their little heads stretched up high to greet the parents bringing food and they are even fluffier!

And they are flying! Very exciting! I've been sitting watching but haven't bothered them with the camera out yet.

All four babies are out of the nest. Can I switch up the nest basket for a new clean one or will that upset them? The nest is very dirty The parents are both fairly tame and don't mind my hand in the cage if that is a factor Thanks!
