Cherryfinches fledge
My baby cherryfinches fledged today. The parents must be split to fawn because the one chick is fawn. The bird might be known in your region as plumheads

Beautiful! We have Cherry finches in the U.S., but not in great supply. I used to have them, they are a really nice addition to a collection.

Thx Babs and Sally. I really needed a bit of good news because my parrotfinch chicks were killed by some psycho bird that tried to remove them from the nest.

MariusStegmann well done mate, I do love the cherry finch, probably one of me favourite of all Australian finches,
I see yer little orange cheek sitting on top of the nest basket, have they done anything for you this year

Stuart whiting Nope Stuart, The oc's are 2 cocks that I bought from a friend that bred them this year. Because all imports of wild caught waxbills to South Africa was stopped and that birds like OC's that don't breed easily won't be readily available, I bought them. As luck would have it, a friend has 2 hens, and we will make a stop once Spring arrives. I have bred them before and they breed, if you put them in a large aviary with live food always available.

MariusStegmann yes mate as you say that oc's as common as they once were are not necessarily the easiest to breed,
I've had them on and off now for over 25 odd years and have bred them aswell,
Yes I totally agree with you that a lot of the success with oc's is all down to the amount of live food that's is given to them and just as important the right live food given,
I know about the African import ban and this came into force when I was quite young as a child and had only just got to grips with the waxbills and African finches during my early years,
Hope yer friend brings you some hens
