w.l. - My question for you: if I invite you to visit us in lovely San Diego, will you come and smuggle in maybe two of those lovely birds? You could keep them stuffed in your socks or something while going through the screening and then put them in a small carrier under the seat in front of you.... :-)
Just an idea,
Iso

Today I had to enter their aviary to catch 2 chicks due to move to a new home, and ring the 3rd I plan to keep.
While in there, I checked the nestbox too, and found as many as 8 eggs neatly together in it!
I hope the female will keep.on brooding after this major disturbance, but am far from sure I'd like 8 chicks hatching. I can hardly imagine the poor parents could feed that many properly.

The topics on Javas and their mutations reminded me of this old thread of mine - I still prefer Timors to Javas!
Sadly, no luck breeding this year.
The only nestful of 5 chicks hatched died in nest a few days old.
Their mother was one of my self-bred from last year, perhaps still lacked experience raising chicks to be able to feed so many well enough.
